Aesthetic and decorative sliding doors. Choosing the Right Material

When it comes to choosing a sliding door, the material is a key factor that influences the aesthetics, weight, and even the type of tracks and bearings required. It is not just a matter of style, but also of functionality.

If you are looking for naturalness and warmth, solid wood or varnished wood veneers are ideal options. They add character, but their weight and thickness must be considered, as they require a sturdy track system. Furthermore, we enjoy customizing these types of doors with exclusive designs, incorporating moldings, reliefs, or combinations of materials to enhance their aesthetic appeal. For humid environments, such as a bathroom with a shower, it is advisable to choose moisture-resistant boards or finishes with protective wax and varnish to prevent warping.

Glass, on the other hand, is perfect for increasing light and the feeling of spaciousness. It can be translucent for greater privacy or completely transparent to integrate spaces. A very interesting aesthetic option is fluted glass, which not only allows light to pass through but also provides privacy and an elegant, decorative finish. Glass doors designed to measure work especially well in kitchens open to the living room, where we want to connect the spaces while also having the option to separate them when necessary.

When we incorporate glass doors, we like to combine them with metal or wood framing, whether solid natural or lacquered.

In the case of lacquered metal profiles, these add a decorative detail to the design, framing the glass and defining its style. The thinner these profiles are, the more lightweight and aesthetic the doors appear. If chosen in off-white or light tones, they convey a softer and more delicate feel compared to black framing, which provides a more industrial and bold look.

When choosing glass doors with wood profiles, we particularly love oak, a material that brings warmth and elegance. These doors adapt to any decorative style, from the most classic to the most contemporary. Furthermore, we design the framing in straight and curved lines, incorporating exclusive details that give each piece a sophisticated and handcrafted feel, making each door a unique work of art.

Another key aspect to consider is the choice of track system. We can opt to keep the track visible or choose a system that allows us to hide it. Exposed tracks, especially in metal finishes, can become a decorative element with an industrial or rustic feel. Furthermore, their installation is simpler, and access to the bearings facilitates maintenance. On the other hand, if we are looking for a cleaner and more minimalist aesthetic, we can hide the track within a pocket or a ceiling-recessed system, achieving a more refined and elegant effect. The disadvantage of this option is that it requires a more complex installation and, in some cases, prior planning during construction.

In any of their versions, we prefer floor-to-ceiling doors, in both wood and glass. These provide a greater sense of spaciousness and continuity in the space, while also enhancing the verticality of the room and reinforcing the architectural design of the environment.

We love designing custom doors that give an exclusive feel to the home, adapting them to the style of each space. Not all materials allow for the same designs or behave the same over time, but choosing wisely ensures that the door is not only functional but also a decorative element with its own character.

When a sliding door is well-designed, it does more than just provide a passage between rooms: it becomes part of the home’s architecture and defines how the space is experienced.
