Home for a large family

Our clients contacted the interior design studio to carry out a full renovation of a 145 m² home they had received as a family inheritance, with the aim of transforming it into their new family home and adapting it to the needs of a couple with three children.

Our intervention was not limited to reconfiguring partitions; it sought to redefine the home’s logic. We organised the functions, established a hierarchy of spaces, and optimised natural light and internal circulation.

In its original state, the home had a highly compartmentalised layout. The approach was to reorganise the home into two main areas: the day zone and the night zone. We positioned the day zone by the entrance and reserved the night zone at the rear of the home.

We integrated the kitchen, dining room, and living room into a single open-plan space, creating a continuous, spacious, and light-filled environment. We simplified internal circulation and achieved better use of natural light.

In this way, we moved from a compartmentalised home to a well-organised, functional, and coherent floor plan. We managed to optimise usable space without increasing the square metres, enhancing light, functionality, and family life.

With the new layout, the living room, dining room, and kitchen share a common space. The home also includes a separate laundry room, a guest WC, a primary bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom, a shared bedroom for the girls, and a single bedroom for the boy. The girls share a family bathroom, while the son has his own en-suite bathroom. We also designed a covered, glass-enclosed terrace, furnished with a seating area and outdoor dining space.

In the day zone, we designed bespoke joinery, which brings visual coherence to the space and defines each area—living room, dining room, and kitchen—through lighting, furniture, and decorative elements. We restored the inherited family sideboard, which takes centre stage in the dining room.

The kitchen with a central island provides space for stools and storage, and also integrates the sink and dishwasher. The kitchen panelling conceals two access points: one to a 1.25 m² guest WC and another to the primary bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and bathroom.

From the living room and dining room, there is access to the covered, glass-enclosed terrace, conceived as a leisure area and informal dining space.

Next to the kitchen, we designed a fully equipped, separate laundry room, intended to facilitate washing and ironing tasks and provide generous storage capacity.

The primary bedroom is accessed through a concealed door, which enhances its privacy. It includes an en-suite bathroom and walk-in wardrobe, arranged so that the wardrobe acts as a transition space between the sleeping area and the bathroom. The walls were finished with geometric-textured wallpaper, and the bedding was selected in blue and neutral tones.

The primary bathroom stands out for a bespoke oak vanity with a double natural-stone basin.

The children’s bedroom area is located at the back of the home. The sisters share a bedroom, bathroom, and study room, while the boy has a bedroom with his own bathroom.

For the girls’ bedroom, we designed two beds in a linear arrangement and a large bespoke wardrobe. The space is completed with wallpaper in neutral tones and décor in a pink palette. Their bathroom features geometric ceramic wall tiles in green tones and a double vanity designed for simultaneous use.

The girls also share a study room and relaxation area, equipped with a bespoke double desk, shelving, and a sofa. At the family’s request, we also incorporated a fold-down guest bed.

The boy’s bedroom includes a sleeping area, study area, and storage, as well as a private bathroom. All furniture was designed bespoke to suit an area of just over 11 m². We finished the walls with check-patterned wallpaper and textiles in blue, grey, and mustard.
